With 91 career wins and 7 Championships Michael Schumacher holds numerous racing records and is arguably one of the greatest drivers ever. He won his first WDC in 1994 with Benetton Ford and his second a year later with Benetton Renault. His greatest success came with Ferrari and from 2000 to 2004 he won 5 successive Championships.

2016 was a seesaw season, at first going one way then the other and then back again. The battle was between Mercedes teammates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg started best winning the first 4 GPs but then after a collision between the two at the Spain GP, neither finished the race. Hamilton won 6 of the next 7 races, then Rosberg won 4 of the next 5. Hamilton staged a late comeback winning the last 4 races, but Rosberg finished 2nd every race giving him a season total of 385, 5 points more than Hamilton. Rosberg won the Championship by winning 9 races while Hamilton won 10.
